Burton Syverson

Burton Syverson, 90, of De Soto died Thursday, January 23, 2014. Burton (Burt) Miles Syverson of De Soto, WI passed away peacefully on Thursday January 23rd, 2014 at the age of 90. Burt was born on July 1st 1923 to Martin K. and Barbara (Ronkoske) Syverson. He graduated from Lansing High School in Lansing Iowa. During World War II Burt worked at an aircraft assembly plant in California until entering the Army Air Corp as a B24 bomber waist gunner serving in the European Theater of Operations in the Eighth Air Force. On June 26 1948 He was united in marriage to Verla Yttri. Burt and Verla lived in La Crosse then later moved to De Soto Wisconsin where they lived for the rest of their lives. Burt was member of the De Soto Lutheran Church and worked as the DeSoto Postmaster until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, wood working, baseball, and talking about his WWII adventures and friendships. Burt is survived by two daughters: Judith (Lars) Jorgensen of Minneiska, MN and Renae (Michael) Wagner of Menomonie, WI; Four grandchildren: Leif (Rebecca) Jorgensen of London, England, Luke Wagner of Menomonie, WI, Annika (Jeff) Pittman of Hugo, MN, and Stacy Wagner of Menomonie, WI; One great-granddaughter, Freya Pittman (called "little Boo-boo" by her great grandfather); Two sisters: Florence Ames and Carole Peterke, both of La Crosse, WI; plus many other loving family members. Burt was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 65 years Verla; one sister: Evelyn Engler; and one granddaughter, Erika Wagner. Special thanks to Dee, Kay, and Becky for the kindness, compassion, and extra help in Burts final months. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the De Soto Lutheran Church. Pastor Doug Andersen will officiate with burial to follow in the De Soto Lutheran Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. till the time of the service at 10:30. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of De Soto is serving the family.
