Carol "Cookie" J. (Sime) Damman, age 69 of LaCrosse, formerly of Gays Mills, died Monday, May 16, 2016. Carol "Cookie" J. (Sime) Damman, age 69 of LaCrosse, formerly of Gays Mills, died Monday, May 16, 2016 at Gundersen Lutheran in LaCrosse. She was born on December 16, 1946 in Viroqua to Kermit and Virginia (Dowell) Sime. Cookie struggled with heath issues since the age of 16 but always managed to keep a smile and put others first. She graduated from Gays Mills High School in 1965. She married Tom Melvin and they had one daughter, Jo Ellen Melvin Zitzner. They later divorced and she married Delton "Del" Burnside. They moved out west and had lived in Spokane, WA, Craig, CO and Phoenix, AZ. After Dels death Cookie put herself through school and became an LPN. She loved to travel, go dancing, listening to country music, camping fishing and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cookie was an active member of AA and was also a sponsor for others. Cookie had many friends all over the United States: When she made a friend she kept them for life. In addition to her daughter, Jo Ellen Zitzner, she is survived by her grandchildren: Zachary Zitzner, Tyler (Melissa) Zitzner, and Brittney (Andrew) Wirtz; great-grandchildren: Abigail Jo Wirtz and Alyssa Joyce Wirtz, Peyton Zitzner and Bronson Zitzner; fianc Rick Bury; brother, Terry (Kathy) Sime; sister, Bonnie Brockway; lifetime special friend, Carolyn Geise; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Kermit Sime; her mother and step father, Virginia and William Ertel; and husband, Del Burnside. Blessed be our memory of Carol "Cookie" Joyce (Sime) Damman. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Pastor Kathryn Ingbritsen will officiate with burial in the Utica Cemetery. Visitation will be held at church on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Online condolences may be offered at www.VossFH.com.
