Carol E. (nee Homstad) Sloane died away Friday, May 14, 2010. Carol Evangeline (nee Homstad) Sloane passed away Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua, WI. Carol was born December 25, 1915 at home to William August and Emma Christiansen Homstad. She has been a resident of Vernon County WI for her entire life living in Newry, Westby and finally, in Viroqua. Carol is survived by her children: Terry (Sally) Sloane of Stoddard, WI; Ardy Sloane of Cedar Rapids, IA; her daughter-in-law, Alice Sloane of Viroqua, WI; her grandchildren: Teresa (Steve) Clements of Readstown, WI; Kevin (Juliene) Sloane of Viroqua, WI; Todd Weissenberger (Cynthia Hernandez) of Albuquerque, NM; Brad (Laurie) Weissenberger of Boise, ID; Jeff (Sheri) Weissenberger) of Indianapolis, IN; Carolyn (James) Ferraioli of Whitefish Bay, WI; Kimberly Adams of Las Vegas, NV; her great-grandchildren: Ali Clements of Elmwood, WI; Cole Clements of Readstown, WI; Katelyn, Jenna and Kody Sloane of Viroqua, WI; Jacob and Alexis Weissenberger of Indianapolis, IN; Sloane, Luca, and Mona Ferraioli of Whitefish Bay, WI; August Weissenberger of Albuquerque, NM; Kate and Anna Weissenberger of Boise, ID and Noah and Nikki Adams of Las Vegas, NV.She is also survived by her brother, Wilmer (Betty) Homstad of Westby, WI; her sister, Ruth Lunde of Paris, TN; her sister-in-law, Jeanette Sloane of Phoenix AZ; many nieces and nephews and her very dear friend, Del Christy who not only brought sunshine into her remaining years but was a constant source of support for mom. Carol graduated from Westby High School in 1933 and attended the Vernon County Normal School graduating in 1934. She taught school at Mohawk Valley near Stoddard and then taught at Rognstad Ridge near Newry, WI. Mom never took education for granted and treasured always the students and experiences of her country schools.Carol married Archie Sloane June 8, 1940 at North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, Newry, WI. They lived in Newry until they moved to Westby in 1947. Westby was home for the remainder of their lives except for time spent in the warmth of the Arizona desert during the winter for 10 years and until Carol moved to Viroqua in 1994.Mom, Grandma, and G.G. were her favorite names. She also wore the hats of sister, daughter, aunt, and friend during her 94 years. Mom was a creative, caring, and loving person who cherished her family and friends. She made many beautiful banners for Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Westby over the years, shared her talent of doll making with the Westby Doll Club, enjoyed the friends of long ago in her sewing club and knitting club and, overall, enjoyed life.We now share her with our dad who passed away in 1990, our brother, Armin who passed away in 1984, her parents, her in-laws, her sister, Naomi Aro and brother-in-law, Carl Lunde. We wish you a peaceful journey, Mom, until we meet again.We would like to give special thanks to the staff at the Bethel Home in Viroqua for their loving care and devotion during the short time Mom was there. She loved to share her stories with the staff members who listened to them with genuine interest. Thanks In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her name to the charity or organization of the givers choice. In lieu of individual acknowledgement cards a donation will be made to the Bethel Home in Carols memory. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 17, 2010 at North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, Newry, WI. The Reverend Dr. Steven Fossum will officiate with burial in the North Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
