WESTBY Carol Elaine Bjornstad, age 88, of Westby, died Wednesday May 10, 2017. Carol Elaine Bjornstad, age 88, of Westby, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. Carol was born April 19, 1929 to Reuben and Marie (Lund) Bergh. Shortly after graduating from Cashton High School, she married the love of her life, Vernal Bjornstad on July 31, 1948 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cashton. Together they farmed and resided in rural Cashton raising four children. She was employed by St. Marys Home in Sparta and Norseland Nursing Home in Westby. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Nordic Village in Westby. Carol was always a loving mother and totally family oriented. She was a generous, faithful and unselfish woman. She loved flower gardening, and card playing. She was always crafting something, but truly enjoyed her card-making for birthdays and holidays. Carol is survived by: her four children, Jolene Wieman of Sparta, Nan (Wayne) Lowell of Irvine, CA, Jeff (Donna) Bjornstad of Westby and David (Karri) Bjornstad of Onalaska; her nine grandchildren: Jeremy (Kelley), Amy (Jonathon), Wendy, Justin (fiance Darcy), Chris (Hope), Janessa (Kris), Jonny, Cole and Karissa; as well as her four great-grandchildren: Christian, Judson, Kayte Madison and Jackson. Further surviving are: her brother, Howard (Donna) Bergh; her sisters: Beverly Haakenson and Ella Karen Lind; a brother-in-law, Jenning (Lois) Bjornstad; and sisters-in-law: Beverly and Hazel Bjornstad; and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Vernal on January 27, 2006. Funeral services for Carol will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church on Hwy 27 in Newry, WI. Pastor Julie Wollman will officiate with burial following the service at North Coon Prairie Cemetery.
