Carol Jean Lunde, age 84, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024, at her daughter’s home in rural Viroqua, surrounded by the warmth of her family. Carol was born on November 27, 1939, in La Crosse, to the late Otto and Mathilda (Hansen) Horman.
Carol's journey began on the family farm where she grew up within a close-knit family that would later expand to include her own children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She graduated from Cashton High School, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life filled with love, hard work, and dedication.
After high school, Carol married Robert Tway Sr. and together they embarked on a life filled with the joys and challenges of raising a family. They settled outside of Westby where they opened and operated the beloved Avalanche Country Store for two decades. Carol's entrepreneurial spirit and warm personality made the store a community staple.
Following her divorce from Robert, Carol continued to demonstrate her resilience and work ethic at the Central Express in Cashton. Her life took another turn when she married Eddie Lunde, though their time together was brief. It was with her high school sweetheart, Jerry Lusk, that Carol found true love. The couple spent over 20 blissful years together on St. Joseph Ridge, creating a lifetime of memories until Jerry's passing in 2018.
Carol's final years were spent in the loving care of her daughter Cindy, in the serene countryside of rural Viroqua. It was here that she continued to embrace life with the same vigor and enthusiasm that had always defined her.
Carol's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. She reveled in the excitement of travel with Jerry, the thrill of a good gamble, and the simple pleasure of dining out. Dancing was a joy in her younger years, and she never lost her love for socializing with friends. Family events were the highlight of her calendar, where she could be found surrounded by her adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carol found peace in nature, whether it was taking walks or sitting on her patio admiring the flowers. She was a master of card games, a whiz at word searches, and always enjoyed a good trip down memory lane with her caregivers, her sister, Connie Evenstad, Kathie Wood and Tammy Burke, during her time in hospice.
Carol is survived by a family that adores her: her children, Cynthia Weber and Robert Tway Jr.; her grandchildren, Brooke (Derick) Babler, April Anderson, Matt (Rachel) Anderson, Cole (Heidi) Weber, Brock (Mia) Weber, Amber (fiancé Luke Baliff) Tway, and Jesse Tway; her great-grandchildren, Elena, Aubrey, Easton, Fletcher, Sage, Freya, and Oliver; her siblings, Calvin (Adeline) Horman, Curt (Vicki) Horman, and Connie (Mike) Evenstad; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her former husbands, Robert Tway Sr. and Eddie Lunde; her life partner, Jerry Lusk; her daughter, Linda Burch; and her son-in-law, Scott Weber.
Carol's legacy is one of unwavering love, kindness, and a spirited zest for life. She touched the hearts of all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and generosity that will continue to inspire her family and friends for generations to come.
Carol Jean Lunde's story is not one of an ending, but a beautiful reminder of the impact one life can have on so many.
