Carter Marvin Thompson, 79, of Viroqua died Thursday, March 15, 2012. Carter M. Thompson, 79, of Viroqua died Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the home of his son, surrounded by his family. Carter was born in the town of Franklin on November 15, 1932 to Lars and Syneve (Hulsether) Thompson. In 1950 Carter graduated from Viroqua High School and was united in marriage to Ramona Cade on April 5, 1955. Carter spent his entire life farming in Vernon County and drove school bus for many years. Carter was a member of the Liberty Pole United Methodist Church and was active in the community especially in the agricultural industry. He served on the Town of Franklin board for over 30 years and was a 4-H leader for 56 years. Farming was his passion and he loved the Big Brown Cow. He showed Brown Swiss cattle at many local, state, and national shows and fairs. Carter is survived by his wife, Ramona; children: Roger, Gary "Ole" (Janet), Dennis, Amy (Lloyd) Hardy, and Kent; grandchildren Syneve (Trevor) Hagen, Lars Thompson, Signe (Brian) Mikkelson, Leif Thompson, Shana, Allison and Dalton Hardy and Allyson Hastings; great-grandchildren Tavin Hagen and Cade Mikkelson; and brothers Layton (Pat), and Orland (Doris) Thompson. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Liberty Pole United Methodist Church. Reverend Ethan Larson will officiate with burial to follow in the Liberty Pole Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Friends may also call on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers and plants memorial contributions may be made to the family or a charity of donors choice. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
