Charles L. Martin, age 80 of Ferryville, died Sunday, January 8, 2012. Charles Lahser Martin, 80 of Ferryville died Sunday, January 8, 2011, at Norseland Nursing Home after a courageous battle with cancer. Charles was born and raised in Park Ridge Illinois. He graduated from Saint Johns Military Academy. From there Charles joined the Army and served with honor in the Korean War. He rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. After the Korean War, Charles attended Illinois Wesleyan where he earned his Bachelors degree in Business administration. In 1960, Charles married Betty Norgaard who remained at his side until his death. Charles went onto a prestigious career as a Financial Advisor in Chicago. He retired as Senior Vice President and a member of the Chairmans Club at Dean Witter. Charles loved to hunt, fish and tend his tree farm, which he did until the last year of his life. He was one of two children born to the late Glen and Marion and was the beloved husband of Betty (Norgaard) Martin for 51 years. Charles will forever be remembered by his sister Janet Sobkoviak, his children Wayne of Elgin, IL, Paul (Jana) of Sun Prairie, WI, Michael (Nancy) of Lombard, IL and Nancy (John) Scott of Franklin, TN. He was loved dearly by his grandchildren Kayla, Matthew, Yolana, Alec, Vierca, Leah, Victoria, David and Katherine, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. Charles touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2012 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Viroqua. Rev. Michael E. Klos will officiate with burial in Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:30. In lieu of flowers or plants, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of donors choice. The Vosseteig Funeral Homes of Westby and Viroqua are serving the family.
