Christine Gorman, 95, of St. Paul, MN, formerly of the Gays Mills area died January 17, 2013. Normal 0 false false false Christine M. (White) Gorman - "Chrissie," age 95, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside on January 17, 2013, at the Highland Chateau Care Center in St. Paul, MN. Chrissie was born February 11, 1917, in London, England, to William and Elizabeth (Pulleu) White. She was the oldest of three siblings. After graduating, she worked as a bookkeeper and seamstress in London. In the early years of World War II, she survived the bombing blitz of London and served in the British Womens Land Army, 1939-1946. Near the end of the war, she met, and later married, Edward S. "Steve" Gorman on November 24, 1945. Chrissie immigrated to the US in the spring of 1946 aboard the Queen Mary and lived for a time on the family farm in rural Blue River. Chrissie and Ed built a house and settled in Gays Mills where they raised five children: Terry, Gregory, Edward, Jane and Kevin. She became a US citizen in 1954. Chrissie served the community as the nurse at the Gays Mills office of the Hirsch Clinic, and later worked at the North Crawford School District office as a bookkeeper until retiring in 1984. Chrissie was a member of St Marys Catholic Church and served the Parish Council of Catholic Women and Altar Society. She was also active in the Prairie du Chien Deanery Council of Catholic Women. Chrissie was a member of the American Legion Post 308 Ladies Auxiliary for 66 years and the Red hat Society and St Paul Optimist Club. She and Ed traveled the state supporting the Wisconsin Coalition of Aging and were conference delegates to the White House in 1995. Chrissie enjoyed working with Ed on programs that benefited the community, education, and aging. She loved time with family and friends. In 2006, Chrissie traveled to England with 28 family and friends to recreate the trans-Atlantic crossing aboard the Queen Mary 2 from South Hampton to New York as she had done 60 years earlier. In 2007, Chrissie moved from her longtime home in Gays Mills to Summerwood Assisted Living of Chanhassen, MN. She loved the company of her family and many friends, and she was never one to miss a social activity. In 2010 she again crossed the Atlantic on the Queen Mary 2 to visit family. She was always mindful to thank everyone and always said with her delightful British accent, "Thank you, Dear." Chrissie is survived by three sons: Terry (Jeri) of St Paul, MN; Edward C. (Mary) of Manchester, CT.; and Kevin (Susie) of Gurnee, IL; six grandchildren: Kelsey Knight; Trista (Chad) McCormick; Beth (Adam) Deyo; Marisa (Dave) Hicking; and Patrick and Jack Gorman; and three great-grandchildren: Johnathan and Madeleine Deyo, and Teagan McCormick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward S., in 2001; her son Gregory in 2002; her daughter, Jane, in 1997; her brother, Fred White, in 2005; and her sister, Hilda Argent, in 2011. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 11 am, at ST MARYS CATHOLIC CHURCH in Gays Mills, WI, with Monsignor Michael Gorman and Father Zacharie Beya concelebrating. Visitation will be on Friday, February 1, from 4 to 7 pm, at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Gays Mills and at 10 am on Saturday until time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Southwest Wisconsin Technical College Foundation, Inc., C/O Gorman Scholarship Fund, 1800 Bronson Blvd. Fennimore, WI 53809. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Gays Mills is serving the family.
