Clarabelle A. Horner

Clarabelle Horner, age 98 of Gays Mills died Saturday February 2, 2019. Clarabelle Horner, age 98 of Gays Mills died Saturday February 2, 2019 at Soldiers Grove Health Services surrounded by loving family and caregivers. Clarabelle was born at home on Sime Ridge, on August 15, 1920 to Hermund and Grace (Helgerson) Sime Sr. She graduated high school then later married the late Charles Charlie L. Horner on June 10, 1939. He later died on October 23, 1990 after 51 years together. She was a homemaker who always put family first. She did spend some years packing apples at Rosa Orchard, where Charlie was a foreman, and she also spent 23 years as cook and Head cook for the Gays Mills elementary and high schools. Clarabelle loved to cook, and bake, and tend her gardens, and in the later years doing jigsaw and word search puzzles. In their earlier years she and Charlie loved to go square dancing when the opportunity arose. She was an excellent quilter as well. Clarabelle had a deep seated devotion to her Savior and faith. She was a dedicated charter member of Luther Memorial Church and responsible and remembered for much of the church activities especially the Fair Stand for the church. Clarabelle is survived by her children: Charlotte (d. Bob) Boughton, Sharon (Robert) Baumeister, and Ronald (Ellen) Horner; and by 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 18 great/great-grandchildren. She was one of ten children herself and still survived by seven of her brothers and sisters: Geraldine (d. Ken) Faerber, Herman (Sandy) Sime, Roger (Elaine) Sime, John (Louise) Sime, Mary (d. Ken) Burton, Janice (d. Keith) Roberts, and Jim (Lila) Sime, and also by countless nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charlie; her son-in-law, Robert Boughton; 2 grandchildren: Tracy and Todd Horner; a great-grandchild, Kyle Cashman; a great/great-grandchild, Oakley Thomas Halverson; and two of her siblings: Arlene (d. Ray) Deml, and Kermit (d. Ginnie) Sime. Funeral Services for Clarabelle will be on Thursday February 7, 2019 at 11:00A.M. at the Luther Memorial Church in Gays Mills. Pastor Carrie Anderson will officiate with burial after the service in Gays Mills Cemetery. A luncheon will then follow at the Gays Mills Community Center on Hwy 131. Friends may call during a Visitation for Clarabelle on Wednesday February 6, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 325 Sunset Ridge Ave & Hwy 131 in Gays Mills, or on Thursday from 10:00-11:00 one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers or plants memorials should be directed to Luther Memorial Church of Gays Mills in Clarabelles name.
