Clayton A. Oswald

Clayton A. Oswald, age 91, of Evansville and formerly of Viroqua, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2006, under the watchful care of family and hospice staff. He was born in Monroe County on the home farm on January 23, 1915, the son of the late John and Margaret (Ginsbach) Oswald. He served in the U.S. Army, 64th Brigade from Sparta during WWII. Clayton was united in marriage to Mary Connelly on January 26, 1942. The couple lived in Viroqua for many years, where they owned and operated the Oswald Plumbing & Heating business from 1953 to 1966. Clayton then worked as a master plumber for the Dept. of Corrections/Waupun Prison for 14 years and retired in 1980. They moved to Evansville in 2002 to be close to their daughters. He is survived by his wife Mary M. Oswald, Evansville; his daughters: Judy McCormick of Beloit, Connie Olson of Brooklyn, Mary Jo Oswald of Oregon; daughter-in-law, Kay Oswald of St. Paul, MN; one sister, Louise Pope of Front Royal, VA; four grandchildren: Shawn (Mika) McCormick, Kevin (Shelia) McCormick, Matt Oswald and Emily Oswald; a step-grandson, Steve (Pat) Olson; four great-grandsons: Logan, Gavin, Ian, and Kyle McCormick;; and four step great-grandsons: Kody Amundson, Chad Langer, Alex and Grayson Larson; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John (Jack) Oswald; two brothers: Elmer and Raymond Oswald; a sister, Anna Huff; son-in-law, Patrick McCormick; two infant grandchildren; and a step-granddaughter, Lori (Olson) Langer. "You will be loved and remembered in our hearts forever." A limb has fallen from our family tree! We keep hearing a voice that says, "Grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the fun, the good life I lived while I was strong. Continue my heritage because Im counting on you. My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest. Continue traditions, no matter how small. Go on with your life; dont just stare at the wall. I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin, until the day comes, well be together again." Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Viroqua. Father Robert J. Cook will celebrate the Mass. Burial, with military rites by the Viroqua Running Johnson Ray V.F.W. Post #3032 will be in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a scripture prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Friends may also call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until departing for church at 10:15 a.m. Memorials to be given to the family. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
