Clayton Palmer Aarness, age 89, of Westby died Sunday, December 27, 2015. Clayton Palmer Aarness, age 89, of Westby passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Norseland Nursing Home. He was born to Morgan and Ida (Kingslien) Aarness on January 1, 1926. He was united in marriage to Gerda Bagstad on June 13,1950 at Upper Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Clayton was employed by Tri-State Breeders until his retirement in 1988. He was very proud of the fact that he had driven almost 3 million miles for Tri-State. Clayton served in the U.S. Army from December 1944 to October 1946. He was a member of American Legion Post 155 of Westby for 69 years and was a past Post Commander. He was a co-founder and active with the Junior Legion Baseball League and was an Umpire for many years. Clayton is survived by his wife Gerda of Westby, his son Bruce (Gloria) Aarness of Tomah, and daughters Ann (Brad) Foltz of Eagle River WI, and Jane (Steve) AveLallemant of Arbor Vitae WI. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, Laura and Rachel AveLallemant and Robert Foltz, and one brother Richard of Elbow Lake MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Donna Johnson and one brother Leon. Funeral Services for Clayton will be on Thursday December 31, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Dan Wollman will officiate. The family will receive friends during a visitation one hour before the service at the church from 10:00 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Coon Prairie Cemetery in Westby followed by a luncheon at the church. The family would like to thank Vernon Memorial Hospital and Norseland Nursing Home for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers or plants memorials are preferred.
