Cleyola Mellem, age 96 of Viroqua, died Sunday August 11, 2019 at Bethel Home. Cleyola Marsene (Sherry) Mellem age 96 of Viroqua, died Sunday August 11, 2019 at Bethel Home. Cleyola was born in Vernon County, rural Viroqua, on April 20, 1923, to Earl and Nora (Johnson) Sherry. She grew up in the Viroqua area and graduated from Viroqua High School with the Class of 1941. Cleyola and Tillman Mellem were married in South Dakota in May 8, 1947. They farmed near DeSoto for 32 years. Cleyola also worked for the DeSoto Schools for several years. Upon retirement they moved to a home near Viroqua. Cleyola was active in her church, United Kickapoo, and with the Sarah Circle. Thank you Pastor Chuck Miller and Shirley Bolstad. She is survived by; her daughter Sherry (Frank) Retherford of Seattle, and her son David (Roxie) Mellem of rural Westby, her grandchildren Timothy (Joanie) Mellem and Rebecca (Scot) Schroeder, both of Vernon County, and a step-grandson Jamie (Alicia) Olson and great-grandchildren Gavin Mellem and Ashton Stafslien, and step-great-granddaughters Rachel, Kasey, Kayla and Kendal. She is further survived by; her brother Sigurd Sherry of Texas and a sister-in-law Barbara Mellem of Richland Center, as well as many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Cleyola was preceded in death by; her husband of 49 years Tillman, her brothers Ellsworth, Robert, Nathan and her sister Betty Ann. The family would like to thank her special neighbors and friends, Nancy and Henry and also Elaine and David. Your friendship was so important to her. Christina Rossetti A Celebration of Cleyolas Life will be Friday September 27 from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua with a prayer service at 5:00 P.M. followed by a reception also at the funeral home.
