Clifford Matson, age 91 of Viroqua, died Thursday, April 29, 2010. Clifford Mathias Matson, age 91, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday Morning, April 29, 2010 at the Vernon Manor where he had been a resident since September l, 2009. He was born September 21, 1918 west of Viroqua on the Mathias Matson home farm to John and Caroline (Thoreson) Matson. He married Hildagarde Yaun, February 14, 1942 at the North West Prairie Parsonage with Pastor Neshiem officiating. In the early forties at Pastor Neshiems Bible studies Clifford sensed he needed a Saviour and asked Jesus into his heart. They farmed in rural Viroqua, living on the present farm for 59 years. He was currently a member of the Bad Axe Independent Lutheran Church. After farming he made hutch cupboards for members of family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Hildagarde; and four daughters: Margaret (Richard) Hansen, Margretta Overbo, Gretchen (Andrew) Brudos and Kari Fortney; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Beulah and Reuben Dregne; nephew, Paul Dregne; a sister and brother, Margaret and Ronald in infancy; son-in-law, Martin Overbo; and a grandson, Alexander Fortney. Yes, he will be missed but we will continue to treasure our memories. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2010 at Bad Axe Independent Lutheran Church, Rural Viroqua. Pastor Donald Greven will officiate with burial in the Bad Axe Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers and plants memorials can be given to Pacific Garden Mission, Bad Axe Building Fund or the charity of your choice. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
