Colleen M. Cushman

Colleen Cushman, age 96, of Boscobel, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024. She was born to Arch and Pearl (Potter) Moore in Gays Mills on April 3, 1928. Colleen was the youngest of their 10 children, having five brothers and four sisters. All of her siblings have preceded her in death.

Colleen has two children, seven grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She also had 31 nieces and nephews, seven of which have preceded her in death. A special mention goes to her nephew, Bill Malloy, who was like a brother to her. Colleen also has two Cushman nephews, Shawn and Darwin.

She is survived by her husband, Shelby Cushman and her children, Rick (Beverly of Green Bay, WI) Rittenhouse of Denver, CO, and Bonita (Mike) Groff of Waunakee, WI.

Colleen married Max Rittenhouse on May 28, 1946. They owned and operated the Kickapoo Variety Store in Gays Mills until 1968. Besides working in the store, Colleen spent many hours waitressing. Max passed away June 1, 1970.

After closing the store, Colleen went to work for Advance Transformer in Boscobel winding coils. There, she met Shelby Cushman, and they were married on October 14, 1972.

Colleen dearly loved all her family; actually, she loved people in general. She always had a good time with a fishing pole by the water. Besides fishing, Colleen loved to travel and would never turn down a trip to a casino. She also loved music and was a member of the Gays Mills Congregational Church and was involved in the church by singing in the choir and was a congregette Colleen’s true lifetime passion was taking pictures, anyone that knew her knows she always had a camera in hand wherever she went.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Vosseteig Funeral Home in Gays Mills. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Colleen will be laid to rest at the Gays Mills Cemetery at a later date.
