Cyrus Marcellus Swenson, 94, of Viroqua passed away peacefully Thursday morning November 6, 2014 at the Bethel Home. Cyrus was born in rural Viroqua (Webster) on May 1, 1920, to Robert and Clara (Anderson) Swenson. He attended a Viroqua area country school. Cyrus served in the United States Army during WWII in the 1503 3rd AAF Base Unit. He was honorably discharged on November 20, 1945. He married Alice (Hayter) in Viroqua. Alice passed away at a young age in 1951. Cyrus later married Kathleen E. (Webb) on October 21, 1953. Cyrus worked in construction for many years. He loved woodworking and created many beautiful pieces. Cyrus moved to Colorado Springs, CO for a number of years and returned to Viroqua in the fall of 2007. He was a member of the VFW and Viroqua Eagles. Cyrus is survived by his children: Charles Swenson of Boulder, CO, Mary Swenson of Peru, IL, Janet Swenson of Viroqua, John Swenson and his partner, John Breen, of Chicago, IL; Karen and George Wilson of Greencastle, PA; and Jeff and Angie Swenson of Onalaska, WI. Grandchildren: Brian Swenson, Kyle Swenson, Mark Swenson, Kathleen Erickson, Max Erickson, Richard Swenson, Elizabeth (Tommy) Horejs, Brandy Wilson, Nicholas Wilson; sisters: Mildred White and Alice (Clayton) Reed; sister-in-law, Shirley Swenson; and a wonderful, caring niece, Vicki (Kevin) Haakenson of Viroqua and a number of nephews and nieces. Cyrus has a great grandchild named Cyrus in Colorado (Brian). Cyrus was preceded in death by his parents; wives: Alice (Hayter) and Kathleen (Webb); three children: Joseph, Kataria, and Stephen Mark; brothers: Otis and Victor Swenson; sisters: Alvina Struxness, Ruth Watters, Doris Seidel and Verna Olson; and two grandchildren: David and Sam Erickson. In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials to the family are preferred. Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm on Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua, The Rev. Dr. Steven Fossum will officiate, with a reception following the internment at Vosseteig Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Viroqua Cemetery with military rites by VFW post 3032. Friends may call from 3-5 Sunday afternoon on November 9, at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua and before the service on Monday from 2:00 pm. Cyrus will be placed to rest next to his first wife, Alice. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family. 96 800x600
