Daniel 'Dick' Jacobson, 85 of Viroqua, died on Thursday, September 1, 2011. Daniel 'Dick' Jacobson, 85 of Viroqua, died on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua. Dick was born April 28, 1926 in La Crosse to Henry and Minnie (Helgerson) Jacobson. Daniel grew up in Vernon County. He attended Seas Branch and Cherry Grove country schools, Viroqua High School and Vernon County Normal School. He served in World War II and the Korean War as a U.S. Marine, where he was injured and received the Purple Heart. Dick married Lucille Alma Nelson on August 3, 1952 at Main Street Lutheran Church in Viroqua. They lived in Muscoda until they purchased a farm on North Asbury Ridge outside of Viroqua and in 1969 built their home in Viroqua. Daniel worked for Tri-State Breeders Coop in Westby as a technician and barn supervisor and was assessor for Viroqua Township. Dick and Lucille also raised beef cattle and tobacco; and after retirement, Dick worked as a Carpenter. Dick is survived by his wife Lucille; children Daniel (Susan), Lynn (John) Slattery and Lori (Kraig) Hanson; grandchildren: Ann (Adam) McDowell, Jenna (Chris) Henshue, John Jacobson, Jamie (Pete) Gudgeon, Brendan and Kaitlyn Slattery; great-grandchildren Cullen and Lauren McDowell; and brother and sisters Henry Jr. (Janet), Marceline (Kenneth) Hartley, Helen (John) Alden. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Timothy; and brother Gene. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The Rev. Lindsay Paul Jordan will officiate with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 12:00 noon until time of service at the church. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
