Daniel R. Tate

Daniel R. Tate, age 84, of Viola, passed away Monday, December 20, 2021. He was born April 8, 1937, to Leroy and Irene (Appenzeller) Tate. He grew up around Red Wing, MN on the family farm. He attended school in St. Paul, which is where he met his wife. He worked at Standard Battery in St. Paul and had four children. Following his time in St. Paul, he moved to Lake City, MN, and worked at Federal-Mogul Foundry for 20+ years until his retirement. He eventually moved to Viroqua for a fresh start in 2006 and settled in Viola. Dan was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Viroqua. Survivors include his children, Patricia Mann, William Tate, Caroline (Robert) Dessalet, and Richard (Charlotte) Tate; his grandchildren, Amber and Aaron Eggenberger, Alicia (Kevin) Thoeny, Riley Tate, Ian, Will, and Wolfe Dessalet, Abby and Gabe Tate; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Judy, Rosie and Linda; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Annette and Donna; three brothers, Mike, Leo, and Tommy Tate. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Viroqua are appreciated. A prayer service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Fr. Matt Marshall will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Viola Cemetery. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
