Listen to Obituary

Danny Evert Christianson, age 79, of La Crosse, WI, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, at Lakeview Health Center in West Salem.

Danny was born on February 13, 1946, in Viroqua, WI, to the late Clayton and Betty Lou (Dewitt) Christianson of La Farge. He grew up on the family farm on Salem Ridge, where he developed a strong love of animals and family, as well as a strong work ethic. After graduating, Danny cared for the farm before beginning a career as a truck driver, a profession he pursued for over 30 years with dedication and pride. He drove for different companies, including Gateway/Fleming, Heilman’s, and Brownberry, earning the CB handle “Diesel Dan,” a nickname that stuck with him throughout his life.

He was known by many as "Uncle Danny" and was rarely shy to strike up a conversation. He was known by many to have a kind heart, quick wit, and strong opinions. He loved life’s simple pleasures — bowling on countless leagues across La Crosse, playing cards, riding his three-wheeler motorcycle, dancing, gardening, and cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. A fan of classic country music and ABBA alike, he was equally at home two-stepping in a dance hall or relaxing with a western movie on TV.

Family was important to Danny. He found great joy in hosting holiday gatherings in his garage, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and babysitting when he could. He was always up for an adventure — including a highlight of his later years, attending Brewers Fantasy Camp in 2016. He spent many treasured hours with his children, grandkids, and extended family, especially making frequent visits to Janesville to be with his Aunt Bonnie Jean, whom he lovingly considered his second mother.

Danny is preceded in death by his grandparents Pete and Minda (Johnson) Perkins, Everet Dewitt, and Philip and Tillie (Role) Christianson; parents, Clayton and Betty Lou Christianson; two siblings who died in infancy; Cousin Patty Jo Bakke; and his beloved dogs, Pepper and Mandy.

He is survived by his children: Derek (Cary Cunningham) Christianson of Westby, WI; Tammy Doll of Minneapolis, MN; Chad (Heather Davidson) Christianson of Cashton, WI; and Tracy Christianson of Janesville, WI. He is also survived by his siblings: Debra Christianson of Rochester, MN; Dixie (Geary) Buchanan of Tomah, WI; and David (Annette) Christianson of La Crosse, WI. Danny leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Clayton, Cameron, and Charlie Christianson; Jack and Henry Doll; Alden and Olen Christianson; and Zachary, Alyson, and Ivory Christianson; as well has his nieces and nephews, whom he loved deeply — Carrie, Christen, Scot, Karen, Lee, and Erik — along with many cousins, extended family members, and friends.
