Darlene J. McHenry, age 88 of Viroqua and formerly of LaFarge, died Thursday, November 27, 2014. Darlene J. McHenry, age 88 of Viroqua and formerly of LaFarge, died Thursday, November 27, 2014. She was born on December 4, 1925 to Gerald and Ina (Hollenbeck) Burnard in LaFarge, Wisconsin. She attended the LaFarge Public Schools and graduated in 1943. Darlene married Gervase R. McHenry on April 6, 1946 at the Madison Free Methodist Church. They farmed in rural LaFarge for 45 years. In 1991, they moved to Viroqua. Darlene worked at Vernon Memorial Healthcare for over 21 years; was a member of the LaFarge Free Methodist Church all her life and became a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Westby in 2005. Darlene was a very active member of the Free Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, Bible school, and served on the church board. Darlene became an avid Packer and Badger fan in later years. Darlene loved her Lord, her church and her family. Her strong faith was evident in the way she lived her life. She strongly believed in the power of prayer. She was a blessing to all who knew her and will be dearly missed. Darlene is survived by son, Stephen (Chin) McHenry of Harker Heights, TX; daughter, Mary (Mike) Lium of Westby; daughter, Elizabeth (Steve) Schiltz of Viroqua; son, Peter (Debbie) McHenry of Boyceville; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and special family friend, Mary Brueggeman and family of Reedsburg. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Betty Burnard Dees; and brother, James (Odella) Burnard of New Glaris, WI. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. Pastor John Dumke will officiate with burial in the Our Saviors Cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Vosseteig Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred to Westby Our Saviors, LaFarge Free Methodist Church or the Bethel Buttik. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
