Darlene �Speedy� Mary Adams Ray

Darlene "Speedy" Mary (Adams) Ray, age 74 of Viroqua, passed away peacefully in the arms of her family on Thursday, January 19, 2006 at Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua, where she had been a resident since September 2005. She was born December 18, 1931 in Brush Hollow, WI to Leo and Hannah (Russell) Adams. Darlene grew up on a farm in Brush Hollow. She graduated from Viroqua High School in 1949 and married Lloyd Ray July 15, 1950. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1993. Darlene loved life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Her granddaughter, Stephanie, was her pride and joy. She loved her cats and had a deep respect for nature. She worked for 30 years at the ASCS office in Viroqua, was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the WELCA, the Miriam Circle, and the Eagles Auxilliary. She enjoyed helping her husband, Lloyd with Toys for Tots. They also enjoyed spending time together at their cabin at Maple Dale where many festivities were held for family and friends. She liked cooking, bowling, ceramics, gardening, and playing cards. She enjoyed spending time with her best friend and next door neighbor of 50 years, Anita Lord, who died in April of 2005. Darlene is survived by her daughter Sheila Bina (Jerome) of Viroqua; her granddaughter Stephanie Bina and her fianc Jeff Martin of Madison; her sisters Lillian (Laurel) Sheldon and Delora Peterson, both of Viroqua; nieces, nephews, and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, her parents, two brothers in infancy, her in-laws Ben and Emily Ray, her brother-in-law Gerald Laverne Ray who was killed in Korea in 1953, and her best friend, Anita Lord. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 23, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Pastor James Steinbrecher will officiate with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 1 4 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 West Decker (Hwy 56) Viroqua, and at the church on Monday from 10:00 until the time of the service. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
