Darrell 'Pete' Gordinier, 92 of Mount Sterling, died Friday, May 16, 2014 Pete was born on April 15, 1922 in Breckenridge, Minnesota to F.F. & Gladys (Anderson) Gordinier. On October 4, 1947 he was united in marriage to Barbara Nelson. Pete excelled in athletics, setting numerous records, and standing out as a pitcher, while attending Boscobel High School. He attended the University of Dubuque for three years, while attending college he excelled in basketball and football. Pete was invited for tryouts with the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago White Sox. He remained an avid sports fan his entire life. Pete enjoyed attending numerous sporting events that his four sons were involved with. Pete also served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, serving a tour of duty in the South Pacific. Pete was a member of the United Methodist Church where he was the treasure in the church office. He also owned and operated a Grocery Store and was the Office Manager for Crawford Electric for over 20 years. In addition to his wife Barbara; Pete is survived by his sons, Gregory Gordinier, Garry (Marcia) Gordinier and Kim (Milly) Gordinier; 11 grandchildren; 15 great - grandchildren; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son John Gordinier; and a sister, Loretta. A Memorial Service will be Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 11:30 am at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Gays Mills, Pastor Lynn Schreck will officiate; Visitation will be from 9:30 11:30 am on Tuesday, at the Funeral Home. Private family interment will be held at a later date.
