David A. Zirzow

February 24, 1947 — January 27, 2006

David A. Zirzow, age 58 of Viroqua, died at his home on Friday, January 27, 2006 after a seven month battle with cancer. He was born on February 24, 1947 in Winona, Minnesota to Delmore and Phyllis (Guy) Zirzow. He graduated from Alma High School in1965 and from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 1969. On September 11, 1971 Dave was united in marriage to LuAnn Schultz and they moved to Viroqua. Dave and LuAnn began Telecable Signals in the Viroqua area in 1972 and built the business until selling it in 1987. David was most proud of his involvement with the golf course in Viroqua. He was president of the Viroqua Country Club, Inc. from 1986 to 1994. He was the driving force in creating the Viroqua Municipal Golf Utility along with a management agreement between Golf Utility and Viroqua Country Club, Inc. for the construction of the "new nine" in 1995-96. Dave designed the "new nine" and worked hands on with the contractor through the construction and grow in phase of 1995-96. This included the tunnel project under Hwy. 14. The "new nine" opened for play in August of 1996. Dave became head grounds superintendent in February of 1999 and was extremely proud that no city taxpayer dollars have been spent for construction or maintenance of the golf course. David is survived by his two children: Christopher Zirzow of Onalaska and Courtney (Scott) Willinger of Holmen; his granddaughter, Lauren Willinger; his mother, Phyllis and her husband Sam Morken of Winona, MN; one brother, Tom Zirzow of Alma; and other relatives and many friends. In addition to his father, Dave was preceded in death by his wife, LuAnn on April 1, 2005. Friends may call on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 from 4 to 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. by Pastor Steven Fossum at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker St (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. The graveside service for David will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Buffalo City Cemetery, Buffalo City, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to "Viroqua Golf Utility" in care of the family. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
