David “Butch” Fortney Wintz, age 81, of De Soto, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family in his home on Thursday, May 27, 2021. He was born August 20, 1939, in Viroqua to the late Beuford and Priscilla (Fortney) Wintz. He attended Viroqua High School. He had a milk route in Viroqua for many years, raised standard bred horses as a hobby, worked at the Genoa Power Plant as a heavy machinery operator, and worked for several area businesses hauling aggregate materials. He resided in De Soto with his life partner, Sharon Ames, for 27 years. He enjoyed harness racing, farming, gardening, and golfing. Survivors include his daughter, Deanna (Rick) Teklics of Kenosha; five grandchildren: Breanna (Brandon) Eagon, Jessa (fiancé Jonathan Selck) Puleo, Jonathan Puleo, Brandon Puleo, and Julia Puleo; two brothers, Jim Wintz and John Wintz; niece, Christine Graham; nephew, Mike (Pam) Wintz; Sharon’s children, Kim Bohnenkamp and Larry Ames; other relatives and friends. Butch was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Rob Wintz and his life partner, Sharon Ames. In lieu of flowers, donations to Gundersen Hospice or the De Soto Fire Dept. are appreciated. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021, at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Butch will be laid to rest at the Viroqua Cemetery. Butch’s family would like to thank the staff at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center Hospice for the care they provided Butch in the final months of his life.
