Growing up he lived in Coon Valley, Middleton, Madison, Milwaukee, and West Allis. He graduated from West Allis Central High School in 1969. On July 21, 1969 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged on July 21, 1973. When he entered boot camp David was very much an introvert but when he left the service after four years he was self confident and not afraid to speak his mind if he felt it was warranted. During his time in the Navy David served mainly on Midway Island and the island of Antigua. David was proud of his service to his country. After his discharge David started work at Trane Company. There he worked for 35 years, mainly in the International Traffic Department. He retried from Trane on October 1, 2008. David belonged to the American Legion Post 116 in Coon Valley, VFW Post 1530 in La Crosse, the Trane Co. 25 Year Club, the Snowflake Ski and Golf Club in Westby, and was once the Governor of the Moose Lodge #1920 in La Crosse. David is survived by two brothers: Dale (Kathy) and Daryl (Nancy); girlfriend of 18 years, Sue Wilkinson; numerous Aunts and Uncles, Cousins, and Nieces and Nephews; as well as by special felines, Duke and Sasha. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnie and Dorothy Holen; sister, Diana; and nephew, Colin. David would like to specifically thank his brother and sister-in-law, Daryl and Nancy along with Sue Wilkinson for spending more time at the hospital during his time there than at their own homes. He would also like to thank for their visits and phone calls: his brother Dale and sister-in-law Kathy, Betty and Arvid Rumsey, Joe and Krissy Bernhardt, Ron and Rita Cuhel, Jan and Bill Stuckey, Jules Peterson, Angie Burish, Lori Mikshowsky, Danny Evenson, and Renee Bogie. David would say he had a great ride and that he wouldnt have done things any different. He bids everyone So Long and You All Take Care.
