David Norvin Mikkelson

November 7, 1948 — December 25, 2023

David Norvin Mikkelson, age 75, of Ferryville passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 25, 2023. He was born on November 7, 1948, to the late Norvin and Lila (Holmes) Mikkelson in Prairie du Chien. David graduated from North Crawford High School in 1967. After graduating, David farmed with his parents on the family farms on South Buck Creek Road. David retired from farming and went to work for Prairie Industries in Prairie du Chien and Lansing, IA, Cabela’s, and currently was working for BAPI in Gays Mills.

He enjoyed tractor pulls, horse auctions, and just being around people, there wasn’t a stranger in four counties that David didn’t know. David was a member of the Ferryville Antique Tractor Club and would volunteer anywhere, whether it was for Lutefisk dinners or local events. He had an uncanny way of remembering people’s names, dates, and knew who was who on the family tree; including knowing all the names of his great-nieces, nephews, and often asked about them and what they were doing. He was a tremendous baker, even volunteering to teach the locals how to make Lefse. David was a dedicated member of Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church where he liked to usher, but always stepped back if the younger ones wanted to do it because he wanted to make sure they learned how.

David will be greatly missed by the many communities that he volunteered or served. He was always kind and considerate to everyone he met whom he called friends and to many, David was known as “Uncle Dave”.

David is survived by his siblings: Lonnie Mikkelson, Marilyn (Ernest) Nemec, Mary (Rolland) Olson, and Cathy Boland; nieces and nephews: Dan Mikkelson, Loren Mikkelson, Duane (Lu) Mikkelson, Sheri Cartwright, Craig (Heidi) Stovey, Chad (Heidi) Stovey, Shawna (Nick) Koch, Cory (Jen) Stovey, Wade (Erika) Olson, Sara Olson, Andy (Amy) Olson, Kurt (Laura) Olson, and Kelsey (Mike) Foley; 17 great-nieces and nephews; a great-great-niece and nephew; and his extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Cheryl Mikkelson; brother-in-law, John Boland; great-nephew, Carter Stovey; and his wife, Kristy Mikkelson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church Cemetery Association or the Ferryville First Responders.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. David will be laid to rest at the church cemetery with a luncheon to follow in the church basement.
