VIROQUA Delores Hornby, age 84 of Viroqua, died Wednesday June 21, 2017 surrounded by her family and loved ones. Delores Mae Hornby, 84, of Liberty Pole passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Vernon Manor with her family by her side. Diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2001, she handled this part of her life journey with grace. Knowing that through these many years what had helped her could possibly help others. Delores was born on June 28, 1932 to Arthur and Palma (Peterson) Hogan on the farm of her grandparents, Eddie and Recka Peterson, at Bud in rural Viroqua. She was baptized and confirmed at Bad Axe Lutheran Church. She graduated from Viroqua High School in 1951. On January 12, 1952 she married Orvis Hornby in Viroqua. They farmed on his family farm in Liberty Pole from 1952-1992. She made a loving and welcoming home while raising four children-Luane, David, Myron and Steven. Delores actively served in her church and community. As a member of the Liberty Pole Methodist Church she was involved in United Methodist Women and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. While in Extension Homemakers she served in various offices and committees. She was a 4-H leader for many years with a special interest in teaching sewing skills to younger members. Delores was a superintendent for 33 years for the Vernon County Fair and was also recognized by the Vernon County Aging Unit as a Senior of Distinction. She was also active on the Vernon County Dairy Promotion Committee. She and Orvis hosted the Holstein Twilight Meeting and the Vernon County Dairy Breakfast. A cherished social gathering was meeting monthly with the women of the Liberty Pole area Birthday Club. Delores enjoyed vacation bus trips with Orvis, attending grandchildrens activities and Friday lunch dates with her sisters. A special joy in these last months was being entertained by her three great grandchildren and anticipating the arrival of her fourth great grandchild in November. Delores is survived by her daughter Luane(David) Meyer of Black River Falls, WI and their children Jarod(Megan) Meyer of Superior, WI and Jennifer Meyer of Black River Falls, WI and sons-David(Bernadine) Hornby, Viroqua and their children Annesa(Kyle) Krautkramer and their son William of Appleton,WI; Adam(Stephanie) Hornby and their daughter Olivia of Viroqua; Laura(Jacob) Kanis and their daughter Addison of Prairie du Chien, WI; Myron(Deb) Hornby and their sons Alex and Chase of Viroqua and Steven(Angie) Hornby of Viroqua. She is also survived by sisters Eleanor Seelow, Chaseburg, WI; Ardy VanRiper, Onalaska, WI; Ruth(Delbert) Leis, Tomah, WI; Rose(Robert) Frederick, West Bend, WI; Betty(Edd ) Reinhart, Edgerton, WI; one brother, LaVerne(Diane) Hogan of Beaverton, Oregon. Brother- in -law Vaughn(Vesta) Hornby of Viola, WI, sister- in- law Iva Hoyum, Rockford, IL and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Orvis in 2002; her parents; an infant sister-Pauline; step father-Clarence Suiter; in laws Alvin and Rena Hornby; brothers-in-law- Louis Seelow, Donald VanRiper and Edwin Hoyum. Blessed be her memory. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Monday, June 26, 2017 at the Liberty Pole United Methodist Church. Pastor Jean Waldron will officiate with burial to follow in the Liberty Pole Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, June 25, 2017 from 5-8pm at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W Decker St., Hwy 56, in Viroqua. Friends may also call at the church on Monday from 10am till the time of service. In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials may be given to the Liberty Pole United Methodist Church, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or a charity of the donors choice.
