Diane Lynn Brekhus

Diane Lynn (Hanson) Brekhus, age 68, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2026 at her home in Viola, Wisconsin.

Diane was born May 14, 1957 in Richland Center, Wisconsin to Julius and Darlene (Wilder) Hanson of the town of Kickapoo in Vernon County.

She graduated from Kickapoo High School in 1975, worked in Racine, then moved back to Viola, working for many years as an excellent cook at Country Kitchen in Viroqua and then many years at Kickapoo Corners.

She married Gary Brekhus on January 7, 1994, spending the first years of their lives together near Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin, then moving to Viola.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gary, April 11, 2007; one brother, David Hanson, October 9, 1984; her parents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is survived by four sisters: Carol (Gordon) Hanson of Viola, Wisconsin, Bonnie Hirschfield of Viola, Wisconsin, Barbara and Nancy Hanson of Viroqua, Wisconsin; three nephews: John, James, and Jason Hirschfield of Viola, Wisconsin and a list of cousins, all of whom were very special to her, and her precious kitty, Rambo.

She will be greatly missed for her delicious cooking and baking skills, and her endless generosity.

Per her wishes, there will be no formal services.
