Dolores June Huffar

Dolores June (Hanson) Huffar, age 78, of Westby, formerly of Viola, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. Dolores was born on June 3, 1945, to Andrew and Verda (Geddes) Hanson on the family farm in Franklin Township. She was a hard worker, helping area farmers with tobacco. She also was a waitress at several restaurants including the Kickapoo Inn, which is where she met the love of her life, William “Barney” Huffar. They were married on February 10, 1990, at the Church of Christ in Readstown. She worked alongside Barney at H&H Implement in Viola for many years. Later in life, on January 22, 2016, she was baptized with her sister at the Christianson farm in rural Viroqua. She had a love for all animals, in particular cats and hummingbirds; she enjoyed reading; attending country music concerts; gardening and flowers.

Dolores will be known for her kindness, gentleness, and love for her family and friends. She was very gentle natured and kind to everyone she met. Blessed be her memory.

Survivors include her children, Kathy (Ron) Freymiller, Rich (Kim) Krogan, and Becky (Greg) Swann; stepchildren, Mike (Denise) Huffar and Colleen Vanderloop; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson (with another great-great-grandchild on the way); her brothers-in-law, Marvin Christianson, and Neil Huffar; her sister-in-law, Mabel; her ‘adopted’ sister, Mary Ellen; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, friends; and her cat, Ruth.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Barney Huffar; infant son, Larry; daughter, Kris Mikkelson; infant grandson, Kyle; brother, Lynn Hanson; sister, Janet Christianson; sister-in-law, Bonnie Hanson; Barney's parents, Jesse and Dottie (Strait) Huffar; and Barney’s six brothers and three sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local animal shelter.

A Funeral Service for Dolores will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Viola United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Dolores will be laid to rest at Manning Cemetery. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
