Dona Schoonover

VIROQUA Dona Schoonover, age 82, of Viroqua, died Friday October 28, 2016. Dona Jean Schoonover passed away on October 28, 2016 at Vernon Manor in Viroqua. Dona was born to Harvey and Theresa (Sordahl) Schoonover on the 7th day of November, 1933. She attended Asbury Elementary School and later graduated from Viroqua High School in 1951. After high school Dona received her nursing degree from St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse. She then went on to obtain supervisor training at Great Lakes Naval Center before joining the Navy Nurse Corps. She served her country in the nursing corps from 1956 through 1976. Always aspiring to be a leader while helping others Dona attained the rank of Naval Commander while stationed in Japan, China, Guam and places throughout the United States. After retiring from the Navy, Dona returned to the family farm on Asbury Ridge to help her brother Gordon care for their mother. She was preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Theresa, one sister Lucille Cox, and one brother Gordon. Blessed be the memory of Dona Schoonover. Funeral Services for Dona will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday November 3, 2016 at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Pastor Dan Wollman of the Westby Coon Prairie Church will officiate. Friends may call during a visitation one hour prior to the service from 10-11:00 A.M. Burial with Military Honors at the graveside will follow the service at Coon Prairie Cemetery in Westby.
