Donald Carl Nelson

Donald Carl Nelson, age 92, of La Farge, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021. He was born to Carl Marinus and Lillie May (Collins) Nelson on June 5, 1929, in Webster Township – Vernon County. Donald attended Lyons Grade School on Buchanan Ridge and graduated from La Farge High School in 1947. Donald lived with his grandma and parents until their deaths and continued to live there and farm. He moved to La Farge in July 1980 and married Lula Belle Jeffers on May 11, 1985. Don was a member of Star Lodge #230 I.O.O.F., Viola Lodge #182 I.O.O.F. from January 20, 1976, through closing July 16, 1990. He served as secretary and treasurer for nine and a half years. He was also a member of Knights of Pythias #159 in La Farge. Donald had many things that he enjoyed. He was an avid reader, enjoyed deer hunting, squirrel hunting, watching the World Series, trout fishing, watching girls’ fastpitch softball, gardening, and watching the Mollie B. Polka Party. Donald had two special pets over the years, his dog, Sam, and cat, Philly. He attended the Free Methodist and Church of Christ churches. Don is survived by his wife, Lula Belle; stepdaughters, Linda (Rick) Thomas and Vickie (Tim) Van Blarcom; grandchildren, Katie (Aaron) Coon and Jacob Van Blarcom; and great grandson, Michael Thomas, III. He was preceded in death by his parents: his father, Carl, in 1971 and his mother, Lillie, in 1972; and a grandson, Michael Thomas II, in 2021. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Vosseteig Funeral Home in La Farge. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Don will be laid to rest at the Viola Cemetery. Due to COVID-19, the family is requiring face masks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lawton Memorial Library in La Farge in memory of Don. Vosseteig Funeral Home of La Farge is serving Don's family. 203 N.
