Donald "Don" Mickelson

Don Mickelson, age 88, of Westby, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born September 8, 1934, to the late Ben and Alma (Pederson) Mickelson in West Salem, Wisconsin.

Don married Doris Nelson on December 8, 1962, at the Church of Christ in Viroqua. They resided in La Crosse until permanently settling in Westby, where they raised their family. Don had worked at Norplex in La Crosse for 40 years and was very loyal, never missing a day of work. His family will always remember in 1957, when Don drove to La Crosse in a snowstorm on highway 14 when it was closed just to go to work. Don was always home on time for dinner. After his retirement from Norplex, Don was a Crossing Guard for the City of Westby for 21 years, which he loved so dearly up until his actual retirement.

Donnie really enjoyed riding motorcycles, deer hunting, and tinkering in his garage, whether he got anything done or not. Almost all holidays were spent at Don and Doris’s house where he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. If you ask his family, Don spoiled this grandsons, Logan and Cole, which he loved dearly. He always looked forward to spending quality time with the two boys whether it was tinkering or just chatting. Don will be always remembered for being good natured and always being there to help others when needed.

Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris; his daughter, Lori Mickelson; his grandsons, Logan and Cole; his brother, Ronnie (Yvonne) Mickelson of Kenosha; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Esther and Bertha; and his brothers: Elmer, Norman, Raymond, and Leslie.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby. Pastor Alyssa Weaver will officiate. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Donnie will be laid to rest at a later date.
