Donald J. Hanson, age 60 of Ferryville, died Saturday, February 18, 2012 at his home. Donald J. Hanson, age 60 of Ferryville, died Saturday, February 18, 2012 at his Aunt Judy/Uncle Roger Wemmers home which was Donnys home for 10 years. He was born on June 19, 1951, the son of Harold J "Tootsie" Hanson and Lillian Joy (Wilson). Donald graduated from Viroqua High School in 1969. He farmed for many years at his parents home on W. Hwy 56, near Bud. In 1976 Donny married Susanna Parrish and they had two beautiful daughters: Stephannie Lynn Al-Jawhar (Hassan) of LaCrosse, and Siobhann Steindorf (Shane) also of LaCrosse; eight grandchildren: Shyanna Allen, Habib, Sausann, Hamza, Ibrahim, Maryum Al-Jawhar, Owen Robert Allen, and Lily Rose Davis; a stepdaughter, Shannon (Lord) Steele from his marriage to Renae Blankenheim; one brother, Steven Hanson of Watertown; one sister, Julie (Russell) Reynolds of Columbia, MO; four nephews and one niece: Sgt. Jacob and Renee Hanson, Lance Corp. David Hanson, Heidi Hanson all of Madison, John and Cindy Reynolds and daughter, Mauren, Jim and Madison Reynolds of Columbia, Missouri. He is also survived by many wonderful aunts and uncles, cousins, friends and his beloved companion BEAR. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Habbib Al-Jawhar; grandparents, Birt and Tressie Wilson, Thore and Rose Hanson, and beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. Don will long be remembered for his kind heart, farming, hard work, hunting, gardening, welding and canning (especially his "Dill Pickles"). Long may he be remembered and loved. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Viroqua. Pastor Pete Beckstrand will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday at the church after 1:00 p.m. Please omit flowers and plants: Memorials are preferred. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
