Donald L. Achenbach

Donald L. Achenbach, 77, of La Farge died Thursday, October 25, 2012. Donald Lloyd Achenbach, 77, of La Farge, formerly of Crawford Co. died peacefully at his home October 25, 2012. He was born March 8, 1935 to Carl and Inez (Rogers) Achenbach. Don always had a ready smile. He enjoyed good conversation and good friends. He was a competent horseman and horses were always a big part of his life. He hated having to sell his beloved Shadow after his stroke in 2007. Don was well known as a mechanic and woodworker. He operated the gas station in Seneca for many years and later moved his shop to his home on CTH S outside Seneca. In the late eighties he moved to the Madison area where he worked as a parts manager and truck driver. When he finally decided he should "retire" he moved back to his farm where he had always been happiest. In March 2011, Don found a personal relationship with his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He was thankful for each new day the Lord gave him and prayed daily for his children/grandchildren and family. He is survived by the love of his life, Debbi; his son, Loren (Donita) Achenbach, Sweetwater, TX, son, Douglas (Madonna Jelenik) Achenbach, Ferryville, WI, a daughter, Crystal (Matt Alexander) Achenbach, Aliso Viejo, CA, step-son, David (Melissa) Mischel; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Sisters: Beverly (late Robert) Wallace, Anna (Robert) Walker, Mabelle (Lyle) Turner, Thelma (Jerry) Jones, Kathleen (Donald) Boatman, Barbara (Michael) Collins, Jeanette Nauert. Brothers: Jerry (Patty) Achenbach, Edward (Belle Ann) Achenbach, Robert (Judy Dilley) Achenbach, Dennis (Marilyn) Achenbach; brother-in-law, Richard Hagensick; dozens of nieces and nephews; and a trusted friend and care provider, Jake. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Inez Achenbach. Sisters: Madeline (Richard) Hagensick, Peggy Ann (Ted) Hall. Brothers: Carl "Gene" Achenbach, Richard Achenbach, and an infant brother, Patrick. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the La Farge Free Methodist Church. Pastor Mark Phillips will officiate with burial in the North Clayton Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00. In lieu of flowers and plants memorials may be made to the La Farge Ambulance Service or La Farge Food Pantry. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
