Donald Ostrem, 64, of Vallejo, CA died on July 15, 2012. Donald Ostrem, son of the late Otis Ostrem and Marceille (Ostrem) Slette was born on Aug 2, 1948 in Viroqua. Don passed away at his home on July 15th in Vallejo, CA. Don received his RN degree in 1982 and worked for Kaiser Permanente for 29 years. He had a variety of experiences that include: Newborn ICU, Medical Surgical nursing including Urology, Outpatient Medical Clinic and Injury as well as Office surgery. Most recently Don worked at the Vallejo Medical Call Center serving member of Kaiser throughout the state of CA. Dons other work experiences include working for the Veterans Administration in San Francisco and Yountville on one of the first Aids Units. He was also a volunteer for UCSF Aids Health Project. Don loved gardening and filled his back yard with native plants, palm trees and beautiful pottery. He enjoyed gourmet cooking and the arts. Don never forgot his roots of Vernon County and made the trip back home at least once a year. When talking with his coworkers they expressed his deep love of family and friends. Don is survived by his mother, Marceille (Ostrem) Slette; sisters, Cheryl Iverson and Heidi Olson; nephews David (Heidi) Iverson, Daniel (Gina) Iverson, Thomas Olson; nieces Melissa Iverson, Kjersten Olson, Annika Olson; great-nephew Brett (Sara) Iverson; great-great-nephew Aaron Iverson; aunts Margie Gay, Lila Ostrem and Mallie Gald.. Don is preceded in death by an infant brother, David and father, Otis Ostrem. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept 8th at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua at 2pm. Visitation will be at the funeral home at 1pm. Pastor Pete Beckstrand will officiate with burial at the Bethel Lutheran Church cemetery. Blessed be the memory of Donald Thomas Ostrem.
