Dorothy M. Chapin, age 88, of Viroqua, died on Tuesday April 24, 2018. Dorothy Chapin, 88 of Viroqua and formerly of Oxford , Wisconsin, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2018. Dorothy was born April 24, 1930 to Lawrence and Marie (Williams) Purdy. She attended Oxford Grade School and graduated from Oxford High School in 1948. In 1955 Dorothy married Cecil Chapin at the Oxford Bible Church. For the first years of their marriage they milked cows and raised laying hens in partnership with Cecils parents. They had a flock of 1000 laying hens and Dorothy feed chickens and gathered eggs. Dorothy also worked at the cheese packing company in Portage until the birth of their first son. Cecil earned a collage degree in1966 and the family moved to Vernon County after Cecil accepted a position as a teacher. They lived in Victory for a few months before purchasing a farm on Pleasant Ridge, in the Town of Liberty. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her Christian faith was important to her. When living at Oxford, Dorothy served as Sunday School Treasure and helped her husband with Young Adults Group. Dorothy was a member of the Over Comers Senior Citizen group at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Viroqua. After Cecils retirement, Cecil and Dorothy enjoyed traveling, some times traveling with friends from church. Dorothy is survived by sons Martin of Viroqua, Daniel "Dan" (Lisa) of Readstown, grandsons Ryan (Shannon Smith) and Steven "Steve" (Candice Kini) and granddaughter Betty (Ben) Hoff, great grand children Alivia, Anastacia, Zabrinna ,Oliver, Emery and Ella sisters Velta (Phillip) Gohlke of Neshkora and Marcia Hoeth of CoonValley (Theodore McDonald). She was preceded in death by: her husband Cecil, brother John Purdy, sister Margaret Wilson, brothers-in-law, Donald Hoeth, and Sherman Wilson, and sister in law Deloris Purdy. Funeral Services will be held at 1pm on Monday, April 30, 2018 at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Viroqua. Pastor Roy Tellier will officiate. Burial will be held at the Briggsville Protestant Cemetery on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 1pm. Friends may call at the church from 12pm till the time of service at 1. In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials may be given to the Bethlehem Baptist Church. Online Condolences may be offered at www.VossFH.com. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W.
