Dorothy F. Piurkowski

December 16, 1925 — September 19, 2017

STODDARD / GENOA / NILES IL Dorothy F. Piurkowski, age 91, died at home surrounded by her loving family and friends, on Tuesday September 19, 2017. Dorothy was born on December 16, 1925 to John Louis and Lucille Nettie (Steinke) Crisp in Chicago, Illinois. She went to high school there but soon married the love of her life, Joseph Martin Piurkowski, and together they raised two sons and a daughter, instilling the importance of family that stayed with Dorothy her whole life. Her strong faith in the Lord, and love of family, especially her grandchildren, was evident in everything she did. She was an inquisitive and curious soul about anything and shied away from nothing. She was an excellent seamstress that loved to play cards, particularly poker. She loved fresh flowers and gardening almost as much as garage sales. She could cook, whether in the kitchen or on the dance-floor, making a mean zucchini bread only rivaled by a jitterbug that caught everyones eye. She was a jewel that will be forever missed and never forgotten. Dorothy is survived by: her children John Louis Piurkowski and Jody Carol Piurkowski, a daughter-in-law Frances (the late Gary) Piurkowski, and her grandchildren Joseph (Rose) and Matthew (Erica) Piurkowski. Also surviving is a sister Arlene (Sig Birkeland) Crisp and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her husband Joseph, her parents, a son Gary Joseph Piurkowski, and a sister Josephine Piurkowski. A Funeral Mass for Dorothy will be held at St. Charles Catholic Church in Genoa on Saturday September 23, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Father Aruldoss Sundaram will celebrate the Mass. Friends may call on the family during a visitation, one-hour prior to the service, from 10 until 11AM at the Church. A luncheon will follow the Service. Burial will be Monday September 25, 2017 with a Chapel service at 11:30 A.M. at St. Adalbert Cemetery, 6800 N. Milwaukee Ave., in Niles, IL 60714. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials of the donors choice, in Dorothys name, are preferred. On-line condolences may be offered at www.vossfh.com The Vosseteig Funeral Home 123 W. Decker St. in Viroqua is serving the family.
