Listen to Obituary

Douglas Frank Hysel, a cherished husband, father, pop, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 24, 2025, at the age of 63. He was born on November 19, 1961, to Charles and Darlene (Miller) Hysel. Doug was a graduate of La Farge High School. After graduating, Doug began his career at Severson's Feed Mill in Viola before joining Lime Ridge Ag Supply, where he dedicated 33 years of service.

Doug's strong work ethic and warm, easygoing nature—paired with his quick wit and well-timed jokes—earned him the respect and admiration of everyone he met, whether he was delivering feed or spending time in the community. In his personal life, Doug spent 37 years alongside his wife, Kathie Hysel, building a life filled with shared experiences and mutual support. Together, they raised a loving family, instilling in their children the values of humor, generosity, and love. Doug's joy multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren, Hayden and Maddy Benson, Kelsiee and Austin Taylor, and Bennett (Bucky) Hysel. He was a constant and joyful presence in their lives—whether he was sharing stories that sparked laughter, teaching the value of hard work on the farm with Bennett, or traveling near and far to cheer on his granddaughters, Hayden and Maddy, at their sporting events.

We find comfort in knowing he’s now reunited with his son, Josh, in heaven—no doubt sharing jokes, pulling pranks, and keeping an eye on us with that same mischievous spark they always had.

Doug will be remembered for his genuine kindness, quick wit, and the way he made people feel seen and valued. Whether sharing a laugh or offering a helping hand, he left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Even in his hardest days, Doug met every challenge with resilience, grace, and his signature sense of humor, never losing the spark that made him so beloved.

Doug is survived by his wife, Kathie; his daughters, Nichole (Phil) Benson and Holly Hysel; his brothers, Steve (Barb Edwards) Hysel and Carl Hysel; his sisters, Pam Hysel and Sandy Hysel; and his five adoring grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Joshua McCauley; his parents, Charles and Darlene Hysel, and his brother, KC Hysel.
