Doug (Tex) Olson

Douglas M. (Tex) Olson, age 80, of Viroqua passed away peacefully on Monday, January 16, 2023. He was born on June 7, 1942, at home on the family farm to the late Osmond and Onah (Schoville) Olson. Doug graduated from Readstown High School in 1960, and after graduating he continued to work on the family farm until 1965. He moved to Viroqua and started at Reed Implement until he left and started working for Nelson Muffler until his retirement. Doug additionally owned and operated his own tree trimming business for 51 years.

Doug married Linda Cravens in 2000, and lived in Sparta until they returned to the Viroqua area 2019. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed traveling to watch horse and tractor pulls. Doug was proud to hold the role of President for the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation and after he stepped down, continued to serve the federation as Banquet Chairman.

Doug is survived by his wife, Linda Olson; children: Debra Primmer of Tomah, Danny Olson of Janesville, Dawn (Les) Myhre of Readstown, Deneen Olson (Kenric Sorenson) of Westby, Deanna (Lars) Leum of Westby, and Amy (Jeremiah) Becker of Monroe; grandchildren: Nathan, Mandi, AJ, Ben, Alexis, Brock, Bjorn, April, and Anthony; 17 great-grandchildren and one on the way; siblings, Delores Randall and Fred (Martha) Olson; brother-in-law, Jim Schultz; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Kathaleen Schultz and Patricia Sullivan; brothers-in-law, Paul Randall and Jim Sullivan; and grandson, Andy Myhre.

Doug invested a lifetime of support for wildlife management, and spent many hours enjoying outdoor sports like hunting and fishing. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can also be donated to the Youth Program/Hunter's Safety at the Westby Rod and Gun (215 S. Main Street, Westby, WI 54667).

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Vosseteig Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker Street, Viroqua, WI. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. A light lunch will be held after the service. Doug will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sparta.
