Earl Gilman Jr, 87, of Viola, died Monday, May 25, 2015. Earl Gilman, Jr., 87, of Viola passed away on Monday, May 25, 2015 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. He was born on July 15, 1927 to Earl Sr. and Mae Gilman. He attended school in the La Farge area. Earl served in the U.S. Army for nearly two years. He was a member of the Viola American Legion, Viola United Methodist Church and Viroqua Eagles. Farming and road construction were his primary occupations. Earl enjoyed horse pulling, making maple syrup, the Packers and playing cards. Earl is survived by his wife of 67 years, Arlene; four children: Rod (Gayle) of Viola, Ron (Sherry) of Viola, Kirk (Cheryl) of La Farge, and Karol (Jamie) of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; four sisters; two brothers; two sisters-in-law; and also many other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters; one brother; and one grandson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Viola United Methodist Church. Bonita Dorschied will officiate with burial and Military Honors to follow at the Viola Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 6:00 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Homes Henthorn Memorial Chapel in Viola and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. In Lieu of flowers and plants memorials may be made to the Kickapoo Rescue Squad, Viola United Methodist Church or Viola American Legion.
