Earl R. Peterson, age 81 of Viroqua, died Tuesday, February 20, 2007 Earl R. Peterson, age 81 of Viroqua, died Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at the Bethel Home. He was born in Vernon County, Wisconsin on April 20, 1925 to Edward and Ricka (Olson) Peterson. On June 15, 1957 he was united in marriage to Sonja Oium. He was a mechanic and had worked at Farm Service, Peterson Motors and Ford Garage. Earl also hauled milk and for the last several years had been the caretaker at the Vernon County Fairgrounds. He enjoyed woodworking, watching birds and squirrels and was a terrific "fix-it man". Earl had a strong faith and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua. He was also a member of the Viroqua Eagles and an honorary member of the Wisconsin Sheriffs and Deputy Sheriffs Association. He is survived by two daughters: Sue (Ken) Isler and their children, Jake and Anna of West Salem and Ann Tucker and her son, Steve Tucker of St. Croix Falls; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Edward on May 7, 1936 and Ricka on April 16, 1952; his wife, Sonja on June 27, 2006; and his siblings: Mabel Rose, Inga South, Rhoda Virak, Palma Suiter, Agnes Skolos, Alma Zimerman and Melvin Peterson. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Pastor Kathryn Ingbritsen will officiate with burial in the Skogdalen Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday after 10:00 a.m. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
