Eddie Fredrick, 78, of Viroqua, died Wednesday, February 26, 2014. Eddie Gene Fredrick, 78, passed away on Feb 26, 2014 at home in his favorite chair with his dogs at his feet. He was born to Eddie Frank and Lillian June (Hanson) Fredrick on August 14, 1935. He was a 1953 graduate of Viroqua High School. He was a well known Brown Swiss dairy farmer at the family farm on Ellefson Road, also raising pigs, sheep, and tobacco in past years. He bought his first purebred Brown Swiss cow at the age of 17 and was committed to the breed throughout his career. He was also heavily involved in 4-H, FFA, and the Vernon County Fair. Eddie was a great fan of and exhibitor at the World Dairy Expo and the Wisconsin State Fair for many years. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors and with his wife, traveled across all of the U.S. states, most of Canada, and more than 20 foreign countries. He served in the Army from 1961 to 1962 while stationed at Ft Lewis, Washington. He was awarded the FFA Honorary Chapter Degree, the Wisconsin Brown Swiss Service Award in 2012, Friend of the Fair Award, was active in the Vernon County Historical Society, Liberty Pole Methodist Church and served on Military Color Guard for Legions and VFW Clubs. He was past commander of the Viroqua American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant brother, Earl. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Fredrick, whom he married on February 28, 1998, as well as survived by stepson, Jon (Julie) Dahl, his very special grandsons Erik and Hans Dahl, and special neighbors-cousins Brad Stafslien and Ben Gald who always looked out for Eddie Other survivors include first cousins, Helen (Larry) Stephen, Joyce Langston (Greg Anderson), Paul Nundahl, Sonia Buhrow, Pauline (Don) Nickel, Geraldine Buchannon, and Lucine Grafft and their families; brothers-in-law Richard (Eileen) Eggen, David (Mary) Eggen and their family, and many, many friends. Eddie had a big heart and will be sadly missed in the community. Dear, dear Eddie I will love you forever - Jeanne. A military funeral will be on Sunday, March 2 at the Viroqua United Methodist Church with Rev. Jean Waldron officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. with services at 3:00. Per Eddie wishes, his funeral is directed by family, with cremation and burial at a later date at Skogdalen Cemetery in Timber Coulee The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Viroqua is assisting the family.
