Edna Dahlen, age 88 of Cashton, died Monday, February 28, 2011. Edna Leona (Gilbeck) Dahlen, 88, of Cashton passed away on February 28, 2011 at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital. Edna was born on the home farm on March 23, 1922 to Alfred and Josephine (Hansen) Gilbeck. Edna was a farmers wife and homemaker for her entire married life. Her family meant everything to her. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, quilting, sewing and especially visiting with friends and neighbors. She was an excellent Norwegian pastry cook and knew all of the "old recipes. Edna married her husband James on May 18, 1946 after he came home from the war. They were members of the Immanuel (Moen) Lutheran Church. Following an accident in June of 2006, Edna had spent the last 4 + years in the Hillview Nursing Home in Lacrosse where she had made many good friends. Edna is survived by her children Janice (Kerry) Saunders, Curtis Dahlen, Rod (Kathy) Dahlen and their children Kyle (Andrea) Dahlen and Abby Dahlen. Her grandchildren were "the apples of Grandmas" eye. She is further survived by one brother Virgil Gilbeck and his wife Beverly, five sisters in law, Joan Dahlen, Evelyn Dahlen, Ruth Hoff, Hilda Gilbeck and Elsie Gilbeck. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and special neighbors and friends including Elsie (Tillman) Fladhammer who she thought of as her "fourth kid". Edna was preceded in death by her husband James to whom she was married for 59 years. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lloyd, Chester, Raymond and Clarence and Clarences wives Helen and Bertha. She was further preceded in death by one sister, Alice Amundson and her husband Elmer, two bothers in law and their wives, Stanley (Eva) Struxness and Norman (Myrtle) Dahlen, and three brothers in law, Luell Hoff, Ralph Dahlen and Art Dahlen; one nephew, Lonnie Dahlen. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Cashton. The Reverend Timothy Johnson will officiate. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. MAIN St., (Highway 14 S.) in Westby. Friends may also call at the church on Friday one hour prior to the service. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
