Elaine Mae Nelson

Elaine Mae Nelson, age 91, of Viroqua, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023, at Creamery Creek in Viroqua. She was born on May 22, 1932, in Waterford, WI to Eric and Laura (Neibauer) Clausen. Elaine was baptized and confirmed at the Norway Lutheran Church in rural Waterford. She graduated from Waterford High School in 1950. Following high school, she worked as an office secretary at Economy Tool in Milwaukee, WI. She met the love of her life, Orlyn Nelson, at a dance and they married on May 30, 1953. Following their marriage, she and Orlyn moved to various locations throughout the state until they moved to Viroqua in 1974. She was a retail clerk at Ted and Fred’s Grocery Store and Hill Country Cheese. However, her main job was raising her family. She was very active with her church (English Lutheran Church) and served on the Vernon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Elaine always welcomed everyone with open arms and food. She loved her family very much you couldn’t find a better supporter for her kids and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Terry (Lynn) Nelson, Larry (Sharon) Nelson, and Cheryl (Jon) Hammond; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren with one on the way; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Orlyn; her parents and siblings.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vernon Memorial Auxiliary or English Lutheran Church.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, at the English Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Elaine will be laid to rest at the Viroqua Cemetery. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
