WESTBY / VIROQUA Eldon 'Dean' Warren, age 88 of Westby, died Thursday June 22, 2017. Eldon Dean Warren passed away June 22, 2017 at the Bland/Bekkedal Hospice Center in Viroqua, Wisconsin. Dean was born on December 13, 1928 to Fred Warren and Edith (Schied) Warren in the township of Wheatland, Vernon County, Wisconsin. Dean married Diane (Owen) Warren on May 20, l962. They recently celebrated 55 happy years together. They have one son, Steven (Pam) and two special grandsons, Brock and Grant. Dean was a 1947 graduate of Viroqua High School and served in the United States Army during the time of the Korean War, earning the rank of Sergeant. He was a public service worker all of his life, starting with the Vernon County Highway Department, and then retiring from the City of Westby as City Works Supervisor. After retirement, he served on the Vernon County Board and the Mississippi Regional Planning Commission. For enjoyment, he loved to participate in sports, especially bowling, golf, horseshoes, and baseball. He was thrilled to attend the high school baseball state championship games that Steve coached in and to see his teams bring home three nice trophies. He also enjoyed seeing Brock and Grant play baseball, basketball, and other sports. Dean and Diane loved to dance and they spent many Sunday afternoons at the Concordia in La Crosse dancing with Roger and Jan. They also enjoyed Friday night fish with Jack and Mary. They enjoyed many vacation trips through the United States, especially enjoying the history of the eastern states. Dean always had a smile for everyone and was blessed to know many people in his lifetime. Dean was member of the Westby American Legion Post 155, La Crosse Moose Lodge #1920, and the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. Dean is survived by his wife, Diane, son Steve (Pam), and special grandsons, Brock and Grant, who he enjoyed so much. Special cousin Eva Clay of Sparta, who called him her "brother." Nieces, Eloda (Miles) Bohland of DeSoto, Jeannine (John) Fraley of Minneapolis, MN Marge Geddes of Burlington, WI, Joyce (Harry) Sutton of Viroqua, and Debbie (Dennis) Troendl of Lansing, IA. Nephews, Marvin (Alice) Springborn of Holmen,WI, Wyman (Linda) Stevenson, Holmen, WI, Terry (Marsha) Stevenson, Ferryville, WI, Roger (Val) Springborn, Redmound, WI, Loren (Marlene) Springborn, Redmound, WI, Allan Springborn, DeSoto, WI, and Brian (Dawn) Stevenson, Prairie du Chien, WI. Cousin Michael (Rachel) Pierce of West Salem, WI. Brothers-in-law Duane (Annette) Owen of Tomah, WI, and Gary (Susan) Owen of Viroqua, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Raymond and Avery, sisters Esther Springborn, Geraldine Siles, Evelyn Stevenson and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral Services for Dean will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday June 28, 2017 at the Viroqua United Methodist Church, 221 S. Center Ave. in Viroqua. Pastor Jean Waldron will officiate. Military Honors will take place at the burial in Viroqua Cemetery following the service. Friends may call during a visitation on Tuesday June 27, 2017 from 5:00 7:00 P.M. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker St. in Viroqua, also for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers or plants memorials may be directed to the Bland Bekkedal Center for Hospice Care, the Viroqua United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donors choice in Deans name.
