Elinor Jensen

Elinor Jensen, 79, of Westby, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016. Elinor L. Jensen, 79, of Westby, WI and formerly of Ames, IA and Story City, IA, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at Bethel Nursing Home in Viroqua, WI after a battle with Alzheimers. She was born on November 20, 1936 to Ellen and Harvey Rolfs. She lived in Decorah, IA along with her parents and four siblings: Howard, Edna, Lois, and Ben. Elinor graduated from Decorah High School in 1955. She married Kenneth Jensen on August 27, 1955. Ken and Elinor moved to Ames, IA while Ken studied at Iowa State University. They later bought their first home in Story City, IA and began raising their five children and lived there for 40 years. After raising her children she filled her time working at a vet clinic, Story City Hospital, and a retail store. She also loved her many crafts such as sewing, painting, cooking and baking for the holidays. Elinors greatest love in her later years was her little four-pound Yorkie, named Flicka, who meant the world to her. Most recently Elinor and Flicka decided to move to Westby to be near her son Gary and also close enough to visit Ken and family and friends in Decorah. Elinor is survived by her children: Gary (Jody) Jensen of Viroqua, WI, Alan (Ann) Jensen of Jefferson, IA, Kris (Tim) Grotheer of Ames, IA, Lori (Tim) Spink of Bellingham, WA; grandchildren: Sarah and Katie Jensen, Matthew and Karl Grotheer, Jared, Ryan, and Ashley Spink, and Jeremy Zimmerman; two great grandchildren; siblings: Howard (Lavonne) Rolfs, Edna Miller, Lois Livingston, and Ben Rolfs, all of IA; brother-in-law, Darrel (Mary) Jensen; sister-in-law, Pat Jensen; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ken in January 2014; her parents, Ellen and Harvey Rolfs; a beloved daughter, Wendy in December 2012; and brothers-in-law, Harold Jensen and Ted Miller. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Westby. Pastor John Dumke will officiate with a luncheon to follow in the church basement. Friends may call from 4-6 pm on Monday, May 30, 2016 at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of service at 11 am. Graveside Service will be held at the Decorah Lutheran Cemetery at 1 pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 with a reception to follow. In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials may be given to Bethel Home and Services, 614 S. Rock Avenue, Viroqua, WI 54665.
