Elling Harvey Jones, age 73, of rural Gays Mills, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2022, at his home. He was born on January 2, 1949, in Clayton Township to Raymond and Rynjal (Reseland) Jones. He graduated from North Crawford Schools with the class of 1967. Following graduation, he farmed with his father and hauled milk for the Mt. Zion Creamery. He met his future wife, Jane McCullick, at the Mt. Zion Bar and they were married on February 24, 1973. They celebrated 50 years of marriage. In addition to his work on the family farm, Elling was very active in his community and the lives of his family. Known as a fair and kind person, he was honest and always led by example. He was proud to be the Town of Haney Chairman and served on the Crawford County Fair Board. He enjoyed learning about his family heritage, enjoyed playing cards, drove school bus and milk truck, and had a unique passion for Farmall Tractors. He was a lifelong member of Luther Memorial Church in Gays Mills, serving as the Council President for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Jane; four children, David (Kim Sprosty) Jones, Steven (Jean) Jones, Jeffrey (Rachel Waldhart-Jones), and Jeremy (Jenna) Jones; his grandchildren, Allyson (Mitchell Kellogg) Jones, Halley Morris, Nick Jones, Wyatt (Tieranie Childs) Jones, Chris Jones, Hunter Morris, Gracie Jones, Leo Jones, Fiona Jones, Archer Jones, and one on the way; three great-grandchildren, Leyton, Blaiklyn, and Paislee; his brother, Ronald (Jo) Jones; sister-in-law, Alice Jones; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Elling was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jerry Jones.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Luther Memorial Church.
A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Luther Memorial Church in Gays Mills. Pastor Carrie Anderson officiated. Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2022, at Vosseteig Funeral Home in Gays Mills. Elling was laid to rest at the Gays Mills Cemetery.
