Eloda Rumsey, 92, of Viroqua, died Sunday, May 6, 2018. Eloda "Odie" Mae Rumsey, 92, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2018. Odie was the first of four girls born to Earl and Margaret (Peterson) Rumsey. Odie graduated from Viroqua High School and UW-La Crosse. She taught Physical Education and English. She was an avid reader her whole life. Odie was a great explorer. She knew all the places to go for rides. She knew where to find interesting wild flowers, ramps, bittersweet, and wild asparagus. She was complicit in teaching her nieces and nephews how to catch "crabs" on a stick and string fishing pole with liver for bait. Odie knew our favorite creeks to swim in. Odie travelled to numerous European countries and all of the U.S. She was lots of fun. Odie is survived by one sister, Bea Marie (Chet) Lee. She is preceded in death by her mother and father; sisters: Phyllis (Jack) Walker and Connie Rothwell; and by Connies husband Rich. Odie is revered by her many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed. Thank you to everyone who offered some kindness to Odie during her life. Funeral Service will be held at 12pm on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W Decker St (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Pastor Yvonne Marshall will officiate. Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 11am till the time of service at 12. A Luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials may be given to the Bland Bekkedal Center for Hospice, the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, or to the Kickapoo Valley Reserve.
