Emmett A. Heisz Jr., age 66, of Gays Mills, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 29, 2026. Known to most as “Speedy,” Emmett lived a full and active life defined by hard work, generosity, and a deep love for the outdoors.

Emmett dedicated his career to the Canadian Pacific Railway, where he served in many roles over the years, including Soni Rail Operator, Section Foreman on the Sturtevant Branch Line, Southwestern Division, and Project Roadmaster. His work ethic and commitment to the railroad were evident in everything he did. He was known for his hands-on approach and deep knowledge of the rails, a testament to his dedication and pride in his work. In addition, he spent nearly 20 years as a tobacco farmer, farming with his family.

A proud and one-of-a-kind man, Emmett was a pillar of his community. Whether helping a friend in need or sharing fresh fruits and vegetables from his garden, he was always there for others. Known for his reliability and strong character, Emmett was a man of his word—someone people could truly count on. His presence was warm and welcoming, and his company was hard to refuse. Over the years, he touched the hearts of many.

Speedy’s greatest passions were rooted outdoors enjoying the natural world he cherished so much. He loved hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren, working on projects with his son, and maintaining the family garden alongside his loved ones. Time spent with his family was what he treasured most.

Emmett was a devoted father and grandfather whose love and guidance shaped the lives of those closest to him. He shared a special bond with each of his children supporting them in their endeavors and always making time for conversation, laughter, and advice.

His grandchildren brought him immense joy and were the light of his life. Whether teaching them about the outdoors, sharing stories, or simply enjoying their company, Emmett cherished every moment spent with them. From fishing trips and hunting outings to time in the garden, he passed down his knowledge, values, and love of nature to the next generation. His legacy will live on through them in the lessons he taught and the memories they will carry forever.

He also found simple joys in life, including peanut butter toast, popsicles, and his beloved Diet Pepsi.

Emmett is survived by his four children: David Heisz, Brenda VonBehren, Jennifer Pastorino, and Victoria Heisz; his mother, Ellen Heisz; four siblings; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Emmett A. Heisz Sr.; his grandson, Carter M. Heisz; his grandparents; several aunts and uncles, and cousins.
