Eric Leum

Eric Leum of Westby, died Monday, March 14, 2015 at his home. Eric C. Leum, age 68 of Westby, died Monday, March 14, 2016. He was born February 25, 1948, to Cyrus and Rhoda (Krogan) Leum in Westby, WI. He attended school in Westby, and was graduated from Westby High School in 1966. He studied at California College of the Arts at Oakland. Eric was a lifelong resident of Westby. He had his own antique shop, Eric's Buttik, for a time, worked for Vosseteig's Furniture, and was a private dealer and appraiser of antiques. Eric was very interested and knowledgeable in Westby history and had an intimate and extensive knowledge of the geography of the surrounding area. Not only was he a great area tour guide for visitors, but his knowledge was put to good use in the many articles and columns he wrote for the Westby Times. Eric was involved in the extended community, having served on the Westby library board and Syttende Mai, and for over 30 years with the LaCrosse Oktoberfest Parade Committee. Eric was also the founder of Leif Erickson Day, Inc in Westby. Eric had been honored as Oktoberfest Volunteer of The Year. Always a good friend to the Amish community, Eric had been involved for several years in providing transport services and during that time established many friendships among the families. Eric had no siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles with whom he was close. He is survived by many cousins and friends, and his humor and personality will be greatly missed by all who knew him well. Blessed be our memory of Eric Leum. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. Pastor John Dumke will officiate with burial in the Our Saviors Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to the Westby Historical Society. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
