Ernest Erickson, age 89 of Viroqua, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007. Ernest C. Erickson, age 89 of Viroqua, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Gundersen-Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse. He was born on January 27, 1918 on the family farm in the town of Sterling to Charles and Kathryn "Katie" (Weber) Erickson. On April 15, 1942 he married Doris Thurin of Viroqua. Together they farmed the family farm (where he was born) until 1985 the year he retired. Ernest loved to tell stories about his life when he was a young man. One of his favorite stories was about when his cousin and he were working with a tree cutting crew to clear land for the preparation of the dams along the Mississippi river.Ernest is survived by his wife Doris: four sons: Arnold (Cindy) of Stoddard; Arden and Don of Janesville; Dean (Elilzabeth) of Viroqua; fourteen grandchildren, David of Texas; Dodi (Clay) of Wendell, NC; Katie (Lucas) of Greensboro, NC; Brian of Raleigh, NC; Kristin of Greensboro, NC; Keith of Le Center, MN; Karl of La Crosse; Brenda of Madison; Amy of Broadhead; Rhonda of Janesville; Chad and Jason of Onalaska; Brett and Justin of Milton; four great-grandchildren: Melissa and Ashley of Raleigh, NC; Dylan of Wendell, NC; and Rachel of Richland Center; daughter-in-law, Mary Erickson of Greensboro, NC; Four sisters: Merle Martin of Muscoda; Lola Lewis of Davis, CA; Rachel Bailey of Muscoda; Lois Reed of Chippewa Fall: and many nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by one son E. Lee, May 19, 2007.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.Doris and her family thanks the staff of Vernon Manor as well as that of Gundersen Lutheran for the care given Ernest.Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 8, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at the Viroqua Church of Christ. Nathan Prong, Minister, will officiate with burial in the Liberty Pole Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday in the South Fellowship Room at the church one hour prior to the service. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
